Magic Mushroom Calculator (Educational & Harm-Reduction Focus)

This tool is for informational planning only. It does not provide medical advice or a “safe dose.” Potency varies widely, interactions can be dangerous, and local laws may prohibit possession or use.

Tip: if potency is unknown and no lab test is available, treat uncertainty as high.

What this calculator does (and what it does not do)

This magic mushroom calculator estimates two things: a dry-weight equivalent and an approximate psilocybin content based on your potency selection. It also gives a simple risk awareness score using non-chemical factors such as sleep, stress, setting, supervision, and uncertainty.

It does not diagnose health conditions, replace professional advice, or guarantee outcomes. Biological response to psilocybin-containing mushrooms can vary greatly from person to person and even batch to batch.

How the estimate is calculated

1) Fresh vs. dry conversion

Fresh mushrooms are mostly water. A common rough assumption is that fresh material contains about 90% water by weight. That means 10 grams fresh may correspond to about 1 gram dry equivalent. This is only an approximation.

2) Potency estimate

Potency can range significantly due to species, growing conditions, storage, and age. The calculator multiplies dry grams by your selected potency percentage to estimate total psilocybin in milligrams.

3) Risk-awareness score

The score is not a clinical tool. It highlights factors that can increase the likelihood of a difficult or unsafe experience:

  • Unknown potency
  • No sober support person
  • Emotional instability or high stress
  • Public/uncontrolled setting
  • Low sleep
  • Potential psychiatric medication or condition conflicts

Important safety context

If someone has chest pain, persistent confusion, severe agitation, suicidal thoughts, or symptoms of serotonin toxicity (such as high fever, muscle rigidity, or rapid heart rate), seek emergency medical help immediately.

If legality is a concern in your region, check local and national laws before possessing or consuming any controlled substance.

Set, setting, and support checklist

Before

  • Get adequate rest and hydration.
  • Avoid mixing with alcohol or other substances.
  • Choose a calm, familiar environment.
  • Have a sober, trusted support person if possible.

During

  • Reduce stimulation if anxiety rises (quiet room, dim light, slow breathing).
  • Stay with trusted people and avoid risky environments.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery.

After

  • Sleep, hydrate, and eat normally.
  • Journal or discuss the experience with a trusted person.
  • Seek professional support if distress persists.

FAQ

Can this calculator tell me a safe amount?

No. There is no universally safe amount because potency and personal sensitivity vary. The tool is intentionally framed as educational and risk-aware, not prescriptive.

Why is unknown potency treated as risky?

Unknown potency is one of the biggest drivers of unpredictable outcomes. Two visually similar samples can differ substantially in active content.

Does body weight fully predict intensity?

Not fully. Body weight may influence concentration estimates, but mindset, sleep, expectation, environment, and neurobiology can be equally or more important.

Final note

Use tools like this to increase caution and reduce preventable harm. If you have a mental health history, take prescription medications, or are unsure about interactions, discuss concerns with a licensed medical professional before making any decisions.
